Local Activities

Centrally located with local sightseeing and walks it is easy to explore the countless activities of the surrounding area. Whatever your interest most are available in and around Perthshire. Nearby attractions include Scone Palace, Drummond Castle Gardens, Blair Castle, Loch Leven, Falkland Palace, Dunkeld Cathedral and the Hermitage, in nearby Birnham the Beatrix Potter Museum, Glamis Castle to name but a few. In the autumn salmon can be see leaping up the local falls at Buchanty spout on the river Almond.

Whisky distilleries abound with the Famous Grouse experience at Glenturret, Dewars in Aberfeldy, Bells and Edradour in Pitlochry all within easy reach, the latter easily combined with a visit to Blair Castle followed by the ultimate shopping experience at the House of Bruar. Often referred to the “Harrods of the north” it also offers a stunning buffet throughout the day whether for coffee, lunch or tea.

Numerous golf courses await with the Gleneagles courses a short drive and for the more ambitious the Old course at St Andrew’s. In Perth the Craigie and Murrayshall courses will always challenge as do the Crieff Golf Club 18 & 9 hole courses. A beautiful scenic drive to Aberfeldy offers two stunning gardens at Cluny and Bolfracks, with highland adventure safari’s offering off road trips. Nae Limits at Ballinluig cater for the more adventurous with white water rafting, canyoning, abseiling and others.

Perthshire offers some of the finest salmon and trout fishing available anywhere; the mighty Tay and it’s main tributaries of the Tummel and Earn offer a wide choice of beats to suit all pockets. Perthshire is also a mecca for deer stalking, game shooting, clay pigeon shooting. Tony has a lifetime’s experience of these sports and can arrange salmon and trout fishing, game shooting, pigeon shooting, roe and red deer stalking on some of the finest sporting estates in the land.

Entertainment and the arts are very much a part of the Perthshire scene with the stunning new Horsecross concert hall in Perth offering a programme of events featuring National and International Stars. Perth theatre and the Pitlochry Festival theatre offer theatre goers an eclectic range of plays, musical performances. Craft shows, Pipe bands, Highland games, Folk nights are an almost everyday part of the tourism season.

Major annual local events include several meetings at the Perth racecourse, the Perth Agricultural Show, the Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace, the Bull sales, the summer outdoor concert at Glamis Castle, the Perth Festival of Arts and numerous Highland Games around the district.
